Medicare Lap Band Surgery: A Health Insurance Program

Medicare Lap Band Surgery Program is a government health insurance program for individuals who are above 65 years or individuals who are under 65 than must be suffering from certain disability. To get the Medicare insurance the patient must have to fulfill certain criteria of the SSA (Social Security Administration).Lap Band Medicare is supervised by Center of Medicare and Medicaid services. This health insurance program provides care and health services to the patients who have qualified the criteria.



The eligibility for getting Medicare help in Lap Band Surgery depends upon certain factors like Low income, age, disability, citizenship and others. This assistance is given to the people having low income. The BMI of the obese patient should be more than 35 and age should be 65 and above if the age is under65 than he/she must be suffering from any weight related disease. The patient should also have record for attempting for weight loss through much other technique.


If the patient qualifies for above mentioned criteria than Medicare Insurance bears 80% of the total cost of Lap Band Surgery. The surgery must also be performed at CMS.

  1. Lap band surgery doesn't stop after surgery, its a working process. It will not work if the patient doesn't stop his usual lifestyle.
